Hey everybody, come see how good I cook!

I kid.

One of my new year's resolutions was to cook at least one meal a week, using a recipe and more ingredients than uncle ben's 90 second rice and sour cream.

I was off to an excellent start when my best friend Jenna took my a culinary school class on how to make sushi.

We were awesome. Better than all the rest. Seriously. Well, maybe behind the food blogger, but I'm sure ours tasted better.

I was so excited about my new skills that I decided to share them with Mike. He has told me before that he hates sushi, but I was sure my sushi would convince him to change his mind. He's probably never really eaten good sushi.

Mike is a vegetarian, so I decided to make him an avocado roll with cucumbers and carrots. Let me tell you, it was delicious.

Unfortunately, Mike still hated it. He wasn't even nice about it.

I believe he even said something along the lines of...
I need a shot of vodka to get this down.

Rude.

His other family members were much nicer about it and choked it down with a smile.

Since I'm recently obsessed with making sushi, I tried my hand at it again in Nashville.

Still delicious.

However, I had a half avacado and lots of salmon left to contend with.

Waste not, want not.

I tried making another dish using these ingredients and came across this recipe:

It was a complete disaster. I think I put too much lemon sauce in it or something, I'm not good at measuring things, I'm more like an eyeballer.

The puree looked like something from the Lost Boys table of Hook.

And I made way too much.

My salmon was drowning, and it did not just keep swimming.

That dish totally sunk.

The green blobs atop the salmon were my attempts at presentation. Fail.
